MS Weekend 11 & 12-2-2023

11 February  2023

The Intensive Seminar of Making Strategy (MS) took place during the weekend, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th of February 2023, in Strathclyde’s Greek Centre, International Management Studies (IMS), which is located in Chalandri, Athens.
The lecture was presented by Professor David McKay and it was addressed to our students who study our Executive MBA and our Executive MBA with a specialism in Shipping.
It was a productive well-spent weekend with plenty of presences including students who flew from abroad to join those who live in Greece and the others who attended the class virtually.
Making Strategy class aims to develop students’ ability to make strategies for their own department, operating unit, Strategic Business Unit. It seeks to introduce in theory and practice the principles of negotiating strategy in a small management team.
The learning outcomes concern the ability to facilitate negotiation across competing views about the strategic future of the organization and in particular manage different perspectives and organization politics, to understand and develop action plans with respect to the systemic pattern of strategic issues facing the organization, to detect emergent strategizing goals, to proceed into an in-depth analysis of distinctiveness, to apply causal mapping and feedback loops to explain the basis of the business model and develop strategic priorities. Last but not least, through MS students can acquire cognitive abilities and skills. In detail, they can identify, understand and apply a wide range of management theories as conceptual handles to enhance practice. In addition, they will be able to understand the language of strategy and strategic management that is rooted in strategy making as a social process.
