Name: Dr. Stoyan Stoyanov
Title/Position: Lecturer - MBA

Faculty Bio

Stoyan holds Ph.D. in Management from the University of Edinburgh. Prior to that, he has completed degrees in International Business and International Studies in the United States with a concentration in Economics. Stoyan’s research currently focuses on overcoming difficulties in internationalisation by theorising on Diaspora networks’ facilitative functions that companies can capitalise on. His research explores how entrepreneurs typically undergo a sequence of processes in which they leverage their Diaspora networks in order to access, acquire, and adapt knowledge and capabilities. Stoyan’s ambition is to illuminate heretofore unexplored processes within ethnic Diasporas that empower entrepreneurs’ alignment with new country market environments. He is particularly interested in exploring the possibility that Diaspora organisations emerge as a favourable environment for knowledge management networks to flourish due to the high interrelatedness and social dependency of Diaspora’s members. Stoyan’s research has resulted in a number of academic papers with strong explanatory power, recognised by the Academy of Management (AoM), Academy of International Business (AIB), Strategic Management Society (SMS), British Academy of Management (BAM) amongst others. Most recently, his work has been judged by AoM reviewers to be of the best accepted papers in their programmes. In addition, the AoM Entrepreneurship division has nominated his work for the all-academy Carolyn Dexter Award for Best International Paper. In 2013, Stoyan was nominated for the Best Ph.D. Student Paper award at the Academy of International Business, Atlanta, USA. In 2011, he received the Most Original New Work Award at the Academy of International Business (UK & Ireland Chapter).
